Over the years since he formed the Sport and Leisure History Research group (SpLeisH) in 2014, Prof Dave Day has encouraged those academics at all stages of their careers and non-academics from many different history and heritage communities who have presented their work at numerous SpLeisH organised seminars, conferences and colloquia to convert their presentations into longer articles. These have subsequently appeared in several in-house publications produced by Dave and his team, the most recent being the volume Playing Pasts, which is being made free to access and will appear in its entirety on this site over the next few weeks.

During the current global pandemic, several selected chapters from other texts are also being made available free of charge by Playing Pasts. We hope that they provide entertaining, informative reading and would ask that if any readers intend to use any of this material in their writing that they cite the authors in the normal academic manner.
